Brereton Law Office

Danielle deMartino

Emily Humy joined the firm in 2022 as a litigation associate.  In her practice, Emily advises clients in civil litigation matters related to real property and property rights, trust and estate disputes, business, and personal injury.  Emily excels at trial advocacy and has quickly become a valued trial attorney with the firm.

Before joining the firm, Emily was an immigration attorney for an immigration non-profit in Watsonville.  In that capacity, Emily helped clients obtain immigration status, naturalize, and navigate the intersection of criminal law and immigration law.

Emily received her Bachelor of Arts from New York University, where she majored in Political Science and minored in French and Studio Art.  She received her Juris Doctorate from Cornell University with a concentration in advocacy.  While in law school, Emily advocated for the rights of death row inmates in South Carolina as part of Cornell's Capital Punishment clinic.

A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Emily is happy to be living in Santa Cruz with her "loc" husband, Sam, who is also a local attorney.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys running local trails with her dogs, bantering with friends, and reading Murakami.
