David has a wide breadth of experience in business, administration and transactional matters and has prevailed in cases involving contracts, property disputes, personnel matters and administrative hearings, including negotiated settlements.
David also handles wage and hour matters; and drafts employment-related policies and agreements, such as employee handbooks and employment agreements. In addition, he conducts internal workplace investigations, advises clients on employment disputes and handles general civil litigation matters. David is a certified workplace investigator with the Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI).
Prior to forming Brereton, Mohamed, and Terrazas LLP, David was responsible for employee and labor relations for a Bay Area public agency with over 1,500 employees. In this capacity, he obtained valuable practice experience of the daily management and business operations of a complex organization and associated personnel matters. This hands-on experience informs him as he counsels local employers about their human resource practices, personnel matters and state and federal updates.
David is highly personable, conscientious and a strong advocate for his clients. He is deeply committed to providing his clients with exemplary service and representation.
David received his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law. Prior to attending law school, he earned a MBA from the Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business. He also possesses a BA in Political Science from San Jose State University.
David is a native of Northern California and is committed to Santa Cruz and the greater Monterey Bay Area. He is the former mayor of the City of Santa Cruz and has served on a variety of local boards and commissions as well as served two terms as a member of the Santa Cruz City Council.
David has been a member of the California State Bar since 2008. He is a member of the Santa Cruz County Bar Association. He is licensed to practice law in all courts of the state of California.
